CALL TO ORDER at 6:02 pm by Jim DeVries in the High School.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

ROLL CALL Board Members Present:  Jim DeVries,Jon McArthur, Melissa Buck, Jill Kettner,  Kyle Larson and Nicole Ose.  Staff participating at the table were: Superintendent Jeff Bisek, High School Principal Kevin Hedstrom, Elementary Principal Jacob Melby and District Secretary Delane Schaumburg.

Staff and visitors in attendance:  Deb Neisen, Derek Aus, Carl Clark– FJJ Solutions, Sarah Keezer, Kimberli Leird, David Geray and Mahnomen Pioneer Representative, Sue Kraft. 

 

ADOPTING THE AGENDA-

MOTION BY McArthur to approve the agenda with additions.  SECONDED BY Larson.   VOTE-u/c

 

VISITORS/PRESENTERS IN ATTENDANCE SPEAKING AT THIS MEETING.    Carl Clark, FJJ Solutions.   David Geray-Questions on the nickname voting and election process.

           

MONTHLY MINUTE AND FINANCE CONSENT BUSINESS

MOTION BY McArthur to approve the August 14, 2017 Regular Meeting Minutes as well as the August 28, 2017 Special Meeting Minutes as presented as well as monthly financial claims for September 11, 2017 totaling $167,948.47 with check  numbers 73954-74035 and Payables totaling $70,896.98 with check numbers 73952-73953 and additional payments for September 11, 2017 totaling $40,772.44 with check numbers 74036-74068, whereby the September total amount of bills paid is $279,617.89, and also approve this action to recognize and accept the following donation-None.   SECONDED BY Larson.  VOTE-u/c

COMMUNICATIONS- Special Meeting  September 18, 2017 at 7:00 am with Waubun School Board regarding nickname and colors

     

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE, COMMITTEE, AND SCHOOL BOARD REPORTS-Student Representatives – Sarah Keezer and Kimberli Leird shared upcoming student activities including Adopt a highway-date to be announced, Halloween Dance, People Parade-September 29 and Homecoming- October 13.  Testing & AYP Data-MCA Testing results; Building & Grounds-Displeasure in new flooring tile, will be meeting with manufacture representative on possible options.  School Board Personnel-Negotiations; Building & Grounds-Questions regarding outside basketball hoops; Pairing-Special Meeting Sept. 18 @ 7a.m. at Waubun School to canvas votes and select nickname and colors; MSBA-Regional meeting Tuesday evening inTRF. 

ADMINISTRATION REPORTS-Elementary Principal-What’s Happened, What’s Going to Happen.   High School Principal-Things Happening. Superintendent Report:  Enrollments and Bond 2017A for Phase II Project. 

 

OLD BUSINESS- None

 

NEW BUSINESS-

Naming the Local Education Agency Representative regarding Public Law 107-110 for the 2017-18 School Year

MOTION BY Buck to name Superintendent Jeff Bisek to act as the local agency representative (LEA) for PL 107-110 for the 2017-18 school year.   SECONDED BY Kettner.  VOTE-u/c

 

2017 Payable 2018 Property Tax Levy and Date of the Final Certification Action

MOTION BY McArthur to hereby set the proposed 2017 payable 2018 tax levy at the maximum formula allowable amount with it being understood that the final levy certification and current year budget review will be during the 6 p.m. regular board meeting on December 11, 2017.

ISD 432 “Red Flags Rule” Plan

MOTION BYLarson to name Delane Schaumburg as the local Federal Trade Commission (FTC) “Red Flag Rule” compliance person.  SECONDED BY  Kettner.  VOTE-u/c

Identifying the Local Official with Authority

MOTION BY Larson to identify Superintendent, Jeff Bisek, as the Local Official with Authority to authorize external user’s access to MDE secure systems for the Mahnomen Public School District.

First Reading of Policy 903 Visitors

Notification of the 1st Reading of Policy 903 Visitors. This is a new policy which requires 3 readings before approval.

 

Revision of Policy 620

MOTION BY Buck to approve the modification of Policy 620 Credit for Learning using statement the school district does not offer weighted grades.   SECONDED BY DeVries.  VOTE-u/c

Mahube Head Start Catering Agreement

MOTION BY  DeVries to approve the Mahube Head Start Catering Agreement for the 2017-18 program year as presented.   SECONDED BY McArthur.  VOTE-u/c

 

PERSONNEL TOPICS-

Resignations

MOTION BY Ose to accept the resignation of Heather Winkler as advisor of the yearbook and school newspaper.   SECONDED BY Kettner.  VOTE-u/c

MOTION BY Larson to assign Kasey Klinkhammer as advisor of the yearbook for the 2017-2018 school year.  SECONDED BY Buck.  VOTE-u/c
