Mahnomen Public Schools is seeking nominees for its Title VI Indian Education Parent Committee


Mahnomen Public Schools is seeking nominees for its Title VI Indian Education Parent Committee. Title
VI is a Federal Formula Grant administered by U.S. DOE – Office of Indian Education that allocates
funding to school districts to provide additional services to American Indian students.

The law requires a
Parent Advisory Committee be established, composed of, and selected by parents and guardians of
American Indian children in the school district, teachers, and where applicable, secondary American
Indian students. This committee gives recommendations to the district’s administration and school board
regarding the District’s Indian Education Program. Parents, guardians and grandparents, of American
Indian students are invited to serve on this committee. If you are interested in serving, would like to

Nominations will be accepted through April 18th with voting held at the Mahnomen School on May 2nd

rd Annual MHS Powwow Celebration. Elections will be held by secret ballot and will be
held publicly and open to all eligible voters. Eligible voters may request and submit an absentee ballot
between April 19th and May 2

nd through the Indian Education Program. All parents, grandparents, and
legal guardians of American Indian students enrolled in the school district are eligible to vote in the
election of parent members to the committee.
