Good afternoon Seniors and Families, I wanted to send an update on our graduation plans. First of all, I want to thank you for your patience. I understand the time constraints. This situation we are in has caused a lot of uncertainty and forced us to rethink how we can do a graduation ceremony. We want to do the best we can to celebrate our seniors and we have been working to develop plans within the state guidelines. Those changed as of Friday, and we will not be able to have our graduation either in the gym or on the football field. So, we will be having a drive-up type ceremony. It will be at 2:00 pm on the 24th, the same as our original date. What we know right now is that the ceremony will be limited to one vehicle per senior. Seniors will ride in their vehicle with family members. They will line up at 1:30 in a designated order in the elementary school parking lot. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 and will be broadcast on KRJM. Speeches will be delivered followed by the handing out of diplomas. This will be done with each vehicle driving up to the reception area and the senior getting out to receive their diploma, have their picture taken, and get back in their vehicle. After all of the diplomas have been distributed, we will have a parade of seniors. The parade will follow emergency vehicles and will go through Main Street of Mahnomen, down highway 200, and drive through Naytahwaush to Pinehurst, where the parade will end. In addition, we will be doing individual pre-recording of seniors with caps and gowns walking across the stage and receiving their diplomas. We will also record speeches. These recordings will be put together in a virtual type program that will be shared out electronically. In the event that we cannot hold the drive-up ceremony, this will be the substitute. Guidance Counselor, Sheila Helgeson, will be contacting all seniors to schedule times for students to come in and get gowns, present speeches, and walk across the stage. This will all need to follow social distancing guidelines so each senior will receive a time slot to come in. Seniors will be able to take their caps and gowns after the recording for pictures at home and we are asking for them to be returned right after the ceremony on Sunday. Sincerely, Mr. Hedstrom
Last week Governor Walz extended the school closure for the remainder of the 2019-20 School Year. As part of his executive order teachers are to use May 1st and May 4th as planning days for the continuation of Distance Learning. Meals and learning packets will continue to be delivered those days however, teachers will not be calling students those 2-days to check attendance. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Due to the extended school closure the MSHSL has canceled all spring sports and activities.
Today Governor Walz announced that schools will remain closed and Distance Learning will take place for the rest of the 2019-20 School Year. This is an unfortunate circumstance and we miss the daily face-to-face interactions with our students. The school staff will continue to work with students and families to provide the best possible instruction for Distance Learning during this unprecedented time. Thank you for your cooperation and effort.
Reminder to Mahnomen School families that Friday and Monday are No School days due to spring break. There will be no delivery of meals or packets those days. Next week's packet will go out on Tuesday. We are still picking up completed packets tomorrow, Thursday, April 9th. Enjoy the break.
Just a reminder that if you requested meals delivered that you please come out daily to the bus get them. After 2-days of not meeting the bus we will remove you from the meal delivery list. Thank you.
Parents and students, Week-1 of Distance Learning is complete. Thank you to all of you that were able to complete your learning packet and return it. We have had a vary high rate of engagement with students and families. Week-2 packets will be delivered next Monday.
Reminder students to meet the Bus on Thursday to return the completed work you have done. Please return the assignments in the packet envelope you received Monday. Also a reminder that April 10th and April 13th is spring break and no school days. There will be no meals or packets delivered those days.
Dear Families of Mahnomen Public School Governor Walz recently authorized schools to implement Distance Learning Plans starting Monday, March 30th through May 4th. Please use this web link https://5il.co/e77u to view the full Mahnomen School District’s Distance Learning Plan. This information will also be mailed to all families for those without Internet connectivity. Distance Learning Packets will be sent out weekly on Mondays and picked up on Thursdays. Both will be in conjunction with the school’s meal delivery, via bus route, which will continue 5-days per week. Students are responsible to come out and meet the bus. The school has taken steps to ensure safety and all Packets will be quarantined for a minimum of 3-days prior to leaving the school and after they are returned. Packets will be graded and accepted up to one week late. Teachers will be available 8:30 am to 3:15 pm daily via email and phone to answer questions and assist students with their work. Teacher contact information is included in the educational packet materials. Teachers will also call students every day to check in on progress and record attendance. Additional information from specific programs and student services may also be included in the Packets. Distance Learning has some student expectations: Students will be expected to meet the bus to pick up their packets on Monday of every week and again on Thursdays to return the completed packet. This is no different than meeting the bus to go to school. Students will be expected to contact their teachers if they do not understand the material or need help or guidance in any way. Daily attendance will be based on daily teacher to student contact and completed assignments. Students are expected to complete work and return it for grading credit. School staff would like to thank you for working with us during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions. Please remember to view our school webpage and media outlets for information and announcements.
School families if you called and requested meals delivered to your home bus stop please come out and get your meals so we don't have to throw them out when we return to school. We are experiencing high numbers of no shows during our deliveries.
A reminder to families that the school is delivering free meals to children during the school closure via bus route stops. Per regulations for meal delivery the child must be visibly present to receive meals through the school lunch program. Also for the safety of school staff that are delivering the meals children must come out and get a meal at the bus stop. If you would like your child to receive meal services please call 218-936-5857. Thank you.

Dear ISD 432 Families: Today, Governor Tim Walz and Education Commissioner Mary Cathryn Ricker announced that all Minnesota public schools will close to students starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020 with the plan to resume instruction on Monday, March 30, 2020. Mahnomen Schools will be in operation Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17. This closure is to give staff time to plan for providing educational services in the event of a longer school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will also be using the time to deep clean the school and buses. IF you are a member of the emergency services profession (law enforcement, fire department, EMTs, etc.) and/or the medical profession (direct care staff) that has elementary school aged children and do not have child care options, please contact the school Monday or Tuesday, May 16 and 17. We will make arrangements to provide supervision for your children during what would be regular school hours. In addition, all after-school programs, extra-curricular activities, community ed, and school events through March 30th have been cancelled. Please remember the basics for prevention: thorough and frequent hand washing, covering sneezes and coughs, cleaning frequently touched surfaces, practicing social distancing (maintain a 3 – 6 foot separation between you and others) and staying away from large gatherings of people. If your child is feeling ill and has flu-like symptoms please keep them home from school. As more information is made available, we will post on our website, on Facebook and through the School’s App. Please keep the school updated with current phone number and address to receive updated information. Thank you, Jeff Bisek, Superintendent
