Please use this link - https://bit.ly/3l5DHI7 to view the full Mahnomen School District’s Safe Learning Plan for School Year 2020-21. The goals of the Safe Learning Plan include: safety of students and staff; prioritizing in-person learning, (especially for younger learners) and consideration of transmission risk among different ages.
The determination as to which model scenario a school will operate under can change at any time and will be based on guidance provided from local Public Health agencies. Families need to be prepared for a change in learning scenarios within a few days notice.
For the start of the 2020-2021 School Year the base learning scenarios are:
Mahnomen Elementary: Scenario #1 In-Person Learning
Mahnomen Secondary & ALC: Scenario #2 Hybrid
(Note: Hybrid Learning guideline is 50% occupancy rate per room (with 6-ft social distancing). It is not 50% enrollment. Based on classroom sizes and low in-person number of students it may be possible to meet the 50% occupancy rate with all in-person students in attendance).
Families do have the option of choosing Distance Learning as their learning model. Families that are enrolled should have recently received information in the mail on those options with registration forms.
School staff would like to thank you for working with us during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions. Please remember to continue to view our school smartphone app, Facebook and website for information and announcements.

Please call the school (218) 935-2211 to provide us with your current phone number and address if it has changed. Thank you.

As you may have heard, MDE announced Minnesota’s Safe Learning Plan for the 2020-21 School Year. In this plan, individual school districts in consultation with Public Health agencies will have flexibility as to how they plan to start the school year. We will use data on county COVID-19 testing rates over the most recent 14-days to make that determination in mid-August if schools will reopen for the In-Person, Hybrid or Distance Learning model.
Flexibility will be critical moving forward. If our area sees a change in COVID-19 cases, we may have to switch between instructional models in a short notice.
Families can choose the distance learning model through Mahnomen Public Schools for their students for all,or part, of the 2020-2021 school year. You will be receiving a registration in the near future to indicate your intentions of choice between in-person and distance learning.
Over the next few weeks, Mahnomen Schools will continue to work on plan details for each instructional model. We will also provide details to the required safety measures being put in place such as: daily health screenings, social distancing measures, reducing student groups as much as possible, facility sanitation and personal hygiene protocols, face coverings for all and limiting outside visitors to school.
This pandemic is a fluid situation and the school will continue to monitor and adjust to the changes. We continue to ask for your patience and cooperation as we work through changes in our school community. Please monitor our School App, website and Facebook page for more announcements and details.

Parents and Community Members,
Mahnomen Schools is following the Governor’s Executive Order on mask wearing. All employees, students and visitors will be required to wear a mask while in school buildings and outside when conditions for adequate social distancing can’t be meet. Thank you.

Families of Mahnomen Public School
This message is to provide a brief summer update on planning for the start of School Year 20-21. As you may have heard, MDE has asked schools to develop plans for return to school during the COVID pandemic. Those plans are to have options for 3-situations: In-Person, Hybrid Learning & Distance Learning.
Which method we will start out the year under has not been determined yet. Because of the changes in the pandemic we may be required to transition between each of the different options at anytime during the year.
Rest assured that Mahnomen School District staff have been gathering information and resources and is in the process of developing plans for each of these options. Safety for students and staff is a priority of our planning as well as a commitment to providing the best education possible.
This pandemic is a fluid situation and we will continue to monitor and adjust to the changes. There will be new expectations and procedures put in place regardless of the option being used. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we work through changes in our school community. Thank you.
